The coming week

A double post today Thought I would put up next weeks schedule for anyone who may be interested. Do I or do I not taper for the 10Km on Sunday, probably not, I don't want to sacrifice mileage and I did not taper before the MDC last week and that served me well. If I don't make my goal on Sunday it won't be the end of the world, there will be plenty of chances this year. Monday - Rest Tuesday - 13Km at easy pace Wednesday - 13Km at easy pace Thursday - 11Km inc 7km at temp pace (about 4:50 to 5:00). Slight concession to Sunday's race, have modified from 13 Km with 9 Km at temp. Friday - 11Km at easy pace Saturday - 8km at easy pace. Again slight concession to Sunday, have modified from 11Km easy Sunday - 10 Km Race Total - 66 Km, so a definite mileage sacrifice, however gaining valuable race experience as I still need to get a handle of the nerves. Back to feeling sorry for myself now.

Hi Em,

I have been reading your blog for the past few weeks, and just wanted to say that I enjoy getting home and reading your latest achievements.

I have no doubt that with all of the training that you have done, you will complete your half marathon very easily.

I find your writing very inspiring - speaking of which, I'm now motivated to go for my long run. It's only 10km at the moment, but who knows, in a few months I might be doing the distances that you are doing now (fingers crossed).

Cheers,

Shane.

I would suggest that you would not need to taper as much for a 10 k'er as you would for longer distances. Having said that I could be wrong.

I probably would have a rest day on the Saturday and therefore hit Sunday with a little fresher legs.

I wish I could schedule my runs like you have but I know when I do it all goes pear shaped. So I just run from day to day.

Aaaah, those wiser heads! Yes, I am beginning to listen to them now instead of just going off to do my own thing lol ;)

Great run today Em and good to catch up again - I think you will smash your goal (again!) on Sunday. I don't really think the nerves are going to be much of an issue - positive thinking girl!!!

We have to finish fast on Sunday as Stu Mac is threatening to eat all my pancakes :(

Enjoy the rest of the day, I think it is DVD and couch day for me.....trying to resist the evil chocolate demon (always a challenge after a long run)

Thanks for the comments guys - I have pulled my miserable butt together now after a lovely nap on the couch.

Shane - Hope you got out there for that 10Ks

Steve - Thanks for the tip, as for scheduling runs, I am just stubborn and won't let anything get in my way, though perhaps I do need to be a little more flexible sometimes :-)

Beki - If Stu even thinks about touching my pancakes he will be in a world of hurt! then again I have no chance of beating him to them.

Hi Em,

Thanks for putting your schedule up - I was interested to see what sort of structure you had going on. You are making incredible progress - I am sure Willi will be a walk in the park :oD will be there doing the 10k.

I love reading about your runs... always gives me a kick up the a**e to get more out of my own training :oD

See you at Williamstown!

Em, the magic question, will I taper or will I not, its not my major race so should I???

And this question is asked by many others (elites included) and I am sure you will ask this question of yourself for many years and many 'minor' races.

A hard question to really ask, but can I suggest you look at your program, how many big weeks have you had, will you be losing too much from the program and how much longer until the BIG race!

Me, I do not normally run the day before a race, but many do. To be honest I will get more out of a 10k race then I will out of a 20k training run, if I race well I will hardly be able to walk after 10k, but the big picture is what you need to look at.

All the best and I'll see you on Sunday....in the pancake line.

Stu
